Fragfest 2008!

A frag is a fragment of a coral.. so a tinsy piece of a coral that is WAY cheaper than buying a large piece and one that will hopefully grow into a large coral. Last night the WMAS had their fragfest and got 4 new pieces! Here's some tank shots.

First up are my 4th try at Zoanthids... we'll see.... the tank is zoa jinxed!

Here's an Acropora frag, it should have a purplish blue flesh when it opens.

Cool shot of my Green Star Rock and the Xenia behind it, with a light upgrade from 10,000K to 14,000K my tank is much bluer and the colors are a lot more vibrant.

My digita's are doing great!

The star coral frag wasn't doing too hot so I moved it more into the shade, they don't like a lot of light so we'll see if that helps.

Hercules and the Little Mermaid kept getting in the way way of my coral shots! Camera hogs.

My frogspawn is doing really well, it has sprouted 2 new heads recently.

The monti cap is also growing, if you recall, it started out as a stark white blob on a rock and has grown into a gorgeous rust colored monti and the cup has started to grow out of the rock.

Frag #3 from fragfest was a torch coral, I can't wait until it extends it's polyps, it'll be gorgeous and I heard a rumor that some clowns will host a torch if no anemone is available.

The last frag I got was a Pink Peony Pocillipora, aka a Bird's Nest. I got 3 small pieces of it and they are scattered throughout the tank, I'll see which spot is better for them.

Full tank shot with the new canopy that I built. It's not perfect but if you scroll down you'll see what I started with and I think it's an improvement. The best part is I now have full access to the tank under the canopy... with the old canopy I couldn't get to anything without having to completely remove it.

Fungal Infection

So I lost my pink zoos to a fungal infection (at least that's the general thoughts) and then it attacked my tongue! NOT my tongue! That's my favorite coral and has been struggling since day 1.
Anyway, I did an iodine dip on it last night and the cottony growth is gone but it left this nasty white ring around it, I hope it recovers!

I found this little hitchiker, it's amazing how well mushrooms grow in my tank.

This little bugger is my new PITA! He has cloudied up my tank, dumps sand on my coral, if I can catch him...

SEE how cloudy the tank is?? I miss my crystal clear water =/ One day he completely buried my tongue coral in sand.

Remember my pulsing pink Xenia? I got more! LOTS more!

And some more purple mushrooms. I'm just letting them go free in the tank, they'll hook somewhere.

Sloooowing down

I've made a LOT of changes over the past 2 weeks and after my Xenia comes in today I'm going to stop, sit back and let everything just happen. I'm happy with my frags and fish so now everything just needs to grow. I'm also having Alk and Calcium issues so I'm working on that too.

Let's start off with the bad news... here were my WAY cute pink zoos when I first got them.

A week later.

More Coral

I found a killer deal on coral last night! Just tinsy frags but someday.. maybe... they'll be big. That takes me to 10 coral frags and one full-sized coral (my tongue).

First up is my sun coral, it hasn't opened up yet but neither has my tongue...

Then my new favorite, a pink zoo! These are some hard-to find zoos but I happened to be in the fish store when a piece broke off of their colony so they sold it to me for $12! This picture doesn't show the pink well but they really are a very pretty pink.

Still hiding... she's eating though so that's a plus..

Holy Diatoms!

The new tank is going on 9 days old.. so far doing well except for one HUGE diatom bloom. I'm thinking it's because of the new sand I mixed in with the live sand because the move to my 90 didn't cause a diatom issue.

Up first is my emerald crab! Yes I have a red emerald crab.. don't ask.. anyway she's doing great!

This is my new foxface... I tried to assure him that NO ONE could see him there, he was safe! He's the worlds whimpies fish... the second I walk by the tank he loses his color, splotches up and falls "dead" to the sand. Here he's left the sand but is still splotchy.

I got my tongue coral! Yay! I've wanted one for a LONG time. The angle is weird because of an algae issue on the glass... I'll clean it as soon as the foxface quits playing dead. The coral hasn't opened up yet, it's still pretty closed up.

Here he is with color! He's gorgeous isn't he? He will be a sweet fish too, they are very docile except for when they put up their back fins and poke you... that'd be a poison similar to a bee sting but 5 times strong... but other than that he's sweet!

It's up!

Here's mid-setup, I'm not going step-by-step on this one... I just did that 2 weeks ago.

I did have this tank drilled twice.

My gorgeous Rocky in his new home... took him a while but he's finally off to find a new home.

A rare glimpse at my starfish, she's always hidden deep under a rock.

Poor guys, relocated three times in 2 weeks, they have spent the last 2 days crammed into the 10 gallon QT.

He's looking desperately for algae... give me time, I'll have a ton I'm sure.

Didn't take the "Mouth" long to open up.

I isolated out my GSP rock so it can grow all it wants and can't spread.. the other GSP is going to get pulled off it's rock and put on this one. It hasn't opened up yet.

My Candy Canes are TICKED! I did notice that they are growing a new head, not sure if it made it through the move though... this was a rough move.

Frogspawn are looking good, not opened all the way but still good color.

In the middle of the night my Zoo frag got dumped over onto it's polyps.. it's had the hardest life!

Digita looking great, that is one HARDY coral.

Kenya Tree is pouting today, he's hard to see.. purple rock.. purple coral.

My newest addition, a rainbow ricordea.. it looks green but "should" grow more colors as it gets bigger.

The other new addition, a blue ricordea.

Full tank shot.

Someone stop me!!!

*sigh* Yes I know that I got a new fish tank 2 weeks ago... yes I know everything just got settled and happy again... yes I know how I just promised good friends that I'd leave my tank alone... BUT I'm upgrading to a 125 gallon tank now.

Here are pictures of the tank in the home of the owner, we're swapping them today. All the new tank needs is some laminate on the front of the hood. It's also going to be drilled so no overflow box, yay.

The new setup comes with the tank, stand, hood and 250W Metal Halides so I'll be all set! My old 55 gallon tank is going to be the new sump for the 125 gallon.. that's a LOT of water.

Just noticed... good thing I still have paint, I'll need to paint the back of this one too. My old 90 gallon is going to be a new Seahorse tank for the original owner of the 125.
